The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully completed a P47.04-million flood control project in Orani.
The initiative involved the construction of a 390.5-meter flood control structure along the Barangay St. Joseph section of the Orani River. This structure is designed to protect residents living near the river from flooding, which is a significant concern during the rainy season. The project features concrete slope protection and a steel sheet pile foundation to prevent soil erosion and riverbank scouring.
DPWH Bataan 1st District Engineer Erlindo Flores Jr. highlighted that the new infrastructure not only offers protection but also contributes to building a resilient community capable of handling natural challenges. He emphasized the department’s ongoing commitment to flood mitigation to ensure safety and safeguard property.
Local resident Pepito Esteron shared the positive impact of the project, recalling the severe flooding and road erosion they previously faced. With the new flood control structure in place, residents no longer have to worry about waist-deep floodwaters, reflecting a significant improvement in their quality of life.
Funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act, this project aims to enhance local resilience against flooding and improve living conditions for the community.
